Covid-19 Cases In China: There is an outcry in China due to Corona infection. A high Chinese health official believes that the country is facing the first of three possible waves of Covid infection. Earlier this month, China had removed the lockdown and quarantine restrictions under the Kovid policy, since then the number of corona infected patients has started increasing rapidly there.
The latest official figures, however, show a lower number of new daily cases. Only 2097 new cases of corona infection were registered in China on Sunday (December 18). Epidemiologist Wu Zunyao has said that he believes the current spike in infections will last until mid-January, while the second wave is likely to extend until the end of January, reports the BBC.
Millions of people travel to China for the New Year’s Eve, usually a holiday with family. Dr Wu said the third surge in cases would last from late February to mid-March as people return to work after the holidays. He said in a conference on Saturday that the number of serious cases of corona has decreased due to the increase in current vaccination.
Overall, China says that more than 90% of its population has been fully vaccinated. However, less than half of people 80 and older have received three doses of the vaccine. Elderly people are more likely to have severe symptoms of Kovid.

10 lakh people likely to die
China has made and produced its own corona vaccine. These have proven to be less effective in protecting people against severe COVID illness and death than the mRNA vaccines used in the rest of the world.
Dr. Wu’s comments come after a prestigious US research institute reported earlier this week that China believes it will have more than one million cases in 2023 after an explosion of Covid cases. More people may die from Covid. At the same time, Feng Jijian, an advisor to China’s Kovid Task Force, said that 60 percent of the country’s population or more than 84 crore people could be infected.
Bad effect on health and catering services
The government has not officially reported any Covid death since 7 December, when restrictions were lifted following massive protests against its zero-Covid policy. It also included the abolition of mass investigation. However, anecdotal reports of Covid-related deaths appearing in Beijing suggest otherwise.
The number of corona infected patients in hospitals in other cities including Beijing is continuously increasing. Due to this, the hospitals present there have to struggle a lot. Due to the increasing number of corona infection patients, it has started affecting the health facilities and catering services there. Meanwhile, China’s largest city Shanghai has instructed most of its schools to take online classes due to the increase in cases.
